Background of the Study
Patient satisfaction is a key indicator of healthcare quality and an essential component of patient-centered care. It reflects patients’ perceptions of the care they receive, including accessibility, communication, and overall service quality (Ahmed et al., 2023). Primary healthcare (PHC) services, as the first point of contact for most patients, play a crucial role in ensuring access to basic healthcare.
In Kebbi State, primary healthcare centers face challenges such as inadequate staffing, limited resources, and poor infrastructure, which may negatively impact patient satisfaction. Addressing these issues is critical to improving health outcomes and increasing trust in the healthcare system (Musa & Bello, 2024). This study assesses patient satisfaction with PHC services in healthcare centers across Kebbi State.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of PHC in improving healthcare access, many healthcare centers in Kebbi State face operational inefficiencies that lead to low patient satisfaction. Issues such as long wait times, insufficient communication, and inadequate facilities undermine the quality of care provided. While interventions to improve PHC services have been introduced, there is limited empirical evidence on their effectiveness in enhancing patient satisfaction (Garba et al., 2023).
This study investigates patient satisfaction with PHC services and identifies areas for improvement in healthcare centers in Kebbi State.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the level of patient satisfaction with PHC services in healthcare centers in Kebbi State.
2. To identify factors affecting patient satisfaction in PHC centers.
3. To recommend strategies for improving patient satisfaction with PHC services.
Research Questions
1. What is the level of patient satisfaction with PHC services in healthcare centers in Kebbi State?
2. What factors influence patient satisfaction in PHC centers?
3. What strategies can improve patient satisfaction with PHC services?
Research Hypotheses
1. Patient satisfaction with PHC services in Kebbi State is low.
2. Identified factors significantly influence patient satisfaction in PHC centers.
3. Implementing targeted strategies significantly improves patient satisfaction with PHC services.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on healthcare centers in Kebbi State, assessing patient satisfaction with PHC services. Limitations include variability in healthcare center capacities and potential biases in patient responses.
Definitions of Terms
